The project "Poor farmers and women manage irrigation in Phu Tho province", funded by Manos Unidas, has been implemented by SRD in Hung Long district, Phu Tho province from 2007 - 2010.
The goal of the project is to ensure food security and increase incomes for farmers through improving the irrigation system and strengthening local capacity on management of this system.
Currently, the irrigation works built with supports of SRD and contributions of local community has ensured the provision of water for fifty five hectares of rice land.
After a visit to Hung Long, Ms. Nguyen Thu Linh, Associate Professor, Doctor, Deputy Director of the Institute of Development Studies, has an article on this project, emphasizing the role of local community in the process of local economic development.
