A THRILLING DATE OF THE PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
On April 18, 2019, the Center for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) cooperated with Gio Linh District People's Committee and Trung Son Commune People's Committee to celebrate "The Vietnam Day for People with disabilities (PwD) on April 18".
With the theme "Accessibility for everyone", the activity attracted nearly 300 PWDs and their relatives from 7 clubs of PWDs in seven project communes, the heads of villages and related units and communes of Gio Linh district. With the spirit of sharing, building solidarity, the members participated and cheered enthusiastically and played the games ebulliently. Especially this year, seven PWD clubs brought their local agricultural products for exchanging. This is an opportunity for the clubs to introduce their local products to the neighboring friends and also for the participants to select useful products and take home. Mrs. H.T.X from Trung Hai PwD club said, “In order to prepare for products exchange today, I and the clubs members visited different households last night for mobilization. The whole club was thrilled to prepare with many people practicing singing for the performance tomorrow while others wrapping local cakes with banana leaves for sharing today”.
Mr. Phan Thanh Ty, the Chairman of Trung Son Commune People's Committee emphasized in his opening speech, "This is an opportunity for the people with disabilities to integrate and express their ideas; legitimate their aspirations to the rights to equal participation and social inclusion. The spirit of joy, enthusiasm of the PwD and their caregivers today shows that this is truly a meaningful and practical activity for not PwD, their caregivers but also for all”.
This activity is within the framework of the project "Empowering People with Disabilities" funded by Caritas Australia and the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, through SRD, in seven communes of Gio My, Gio Hai, Trung Hai, Trung Son, Gio Chau, Gio Phong and Gio Linh town, Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province.
