Within the framework of the VM077 project " “Strengthened climate resilience and sustainable income generation for mangrove forest-dependent vulnerable communities” (VM077)” the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD), in collaboration with the VM077 Project Working Group, Ca Mau Provincial Women's Union, Dat Mui Commune Women's Union, Mui Ca Mau National Park, and Dat Mui Protection Forest Management Board, organized a series of capacity-building workshops and a tree-planting initiative in Mui hamlet, Dat Mui commune.

Over six days, three practical training modules were implemented for women’s union members and residents, focusing on:

The majority of participants were local women, who play a key role in maintaining household hygiene and community health. Despite their significant domestic and economic responsibilities, they actively participated in the training sessions, demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility toward environmental protection and climate change adaptation.
Importantly, the training did not end at knowledge transfer. Many participants immediately applied the techniques during the sessions and committed to implementing them in their households. These efforts are expected to contribute to improved sanitation practices, reduced household waste, and decreased pressure on local mangrove ecosystems.
The training series concluded with a meaningful tree-planting campaign organized by the Dat Mui Commune Women’s Union to mark the upcoming Party Congresses at various administrative levels and the 95th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union. Along rural roads, hundreds of trees were planted by women’s union members, local authorities, and community members. This activity not only enhances the local landscape but also helps prevent soil erosion and strengthen community climate resilience.

By combining technical training with practical action, the initiative has created positive and immediate impacts. Participants have acquired new knowledge and translated it into concrete behavioural changes—from composting and waste segregation to sanitation improvements and tree cultivation. The message “Every Woman – One Tree; Green Living – Sustainable Adaptation” has been widely disseminated, highlighting the vital role of women in environmental protection, landscape management, and rural development.
With continued support from SRD and partner organizations, the movement demonstrates strong potential for replication, contributing to mangrove conservation, improved living conditions, and sustainable livelihoods for the Dat Mui community.
