SRD - Centre for Sustainable Rural Development

 

Who We Are

 


The Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) is a Vietnamese non-governmental organization. We are committed to working for the development of disadvantaged rural communities, supporting them to improve their lives and manage sustainable resources. 

SRD inherited 28 years of experience from International Cooperation for Development and Solidarity (CIDSE Vietnam) which is an international non-governmental organization that has successfully implemented many development projects in Vietnam in the period of 1975-2005. In 2005, when CIDSE Vietnam achieved its goal of transferring its development activities to Vietnamese partners, SRD were born to continue pursuing the goal of supporting poor rural communities in Vietnam.

In March 2006, SRD was officially founded under Decision No. 281/QD-LHH of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) with a science and technology registration certificate No.A-498 issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) dated March 30 2006.

SRD currently has its head office located in Hanoi and an office in Hue. SRD maintains extensive relationships with local and international consultants, collaborators. SRD is a founding member and the Chair of VNGO&CC and VNGO-FLEGT Networks, and is also a member of the Steering Committee of the UNREDD Program Phase 2, Vice Chair of the GENCOMNET Network and an active member of several domestic Networks such as CCWG, CDG, GMO, PPWG, CIFPEN, EMWG, VRN, etc. Additionally, SRD is member of the Asia Pacific Research Network (APRN) Executive Board and members of overseas regional networks such as PAN AP, EARWG, Aid Effectiveness, The Mekong Adaptation Forum, SEA Change, Reality of Aid Network, etc. Basing on the strategic plan for the period 2018-2022, SRD's projects and programs are currently implemented in poor and disadvantaged communities, concentrated in the Northern mountainous region and the Central region, and will expand to the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam from 2021.

SRD's projects focus on the key areas including Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihoods; Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction; Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT); Supporting People with Disabilities; Promoting Gender Equality and Child Protection; EU-Vietnam free trade (EVFTA); Research and advocacy in related fields. Interventions support communities focus on poverty reduction, environmental protection, adaptation and mitigation of climate change (CC), improving governance capacity for people to better manage their development process.
