The Fair for Exchanging agro-products of People with Disabilities

On April 21-22, 2022, the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) cooperated with Gio An Commune People's Committee and the Steering Committee of the project "Empowering People with Disabilities" (PwDs) to organize the Fair for Exchanging agro-products of PwDs at of Gio An Commune Cultural Yard, Gio Linh District, Quang Tri Province.

There were 16  stalls of agricultural products, of which 10 are from PwDs clubs and 6 from Gio An commune mass associations  along with 4 food stalls organized following criteria of safety,  fun, space to exchange and environmental friendliness to promote creativity, community assets-based approach, decision-making and teamwork spirit of club members. The fair also aims to strengthen the influence of PwDs on the community and related mass associations as well as to attract further attention and support for the activities of the Disability clubs in general, livelihoods improvement and income generation of PwDs in particular.

“The People’s Committee of Gio An commune hosted the Fair for exchanging agro-products of PwDs, which gathered 10 stalls of of 10 clubs  and communes in entire district. Many products were made by and/or partly contributed by the PWDs. This is also an opportunity for the Clubs and PWDs, livehoods groups to exchange agricultural products, to connect and to cooperate for possible business expansion in orderto help PWDs increase their income, become more confident and empower themselves.” Mr. Le Phuoc Hieu- Vice Chairman of Gio An commmune People’s Committee delivered the opening speech.  

Mr. Tuan Hung (resident of Gio Linh town) excitedly shared after buying a lot of agricultural products: "I just came by and see there was so much fun in here! In each  stall , there were many practical items for daily use. As long as I knew that these products were made by PwDs, I appreciated and bought lots of goods!"

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hao - the head of Gio My PwD Club shared with excitement "For the first time, our commune has been able to participate in the fair.  I can see that everyone is happy and excited. The products are rich and diverse, which we have only been selling at the market for a long time without having the opportunity to exchange at the fair today. I look forward to further opportunities like this when we PwD would be able to exchange, learn from one another and to prove ourselves. We will feel more connected and confident in life."

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung (member of Gio An Commune Disability Club) excitedly said: "I am 74 years old, but it is the first time I have ever participated in such a fun event. I was very excited to be assigned by the club to decorate the booth so I could show my artistic talents. I've also been able to socialize, make friends with a lot of people, and feel much more open, active, and younger."

Ms. Ly Thi Gai, a member of Gio Chau Commune Disability Club confidently said, "I have been trained in the skills of online sale including writing a piece of products for post with photos taken  . Recently, I have participated in training on teamwork, presentation, and communication skills, so this fair is an opportunity for me to practice how to display different items in a place for eye catching and for keeping customers at our place, how to arouse customers’ interests and then to convince them to purchase, how to keep current and continue to have new  customers. I'm really happy, confident and excited to be engaged with everyone in the club."

 

After two days with many activities such as organizing  stalls to introduce and exchange agricultural products and arts performance, with the game of “Choose the right price” for visitors, the organization committee have summarized and awarded (i) the  stall with elaborate investment, (ii) friendly display stall, (iii) the best impressive sellers, (iv) the best costumes, etc. for participating clubs.

This is an activity within the framework of the project "Empowering People with Disabilities" funded by Caritas Australia and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in the Gio Linh district, in the period from  2019 to 2022, was implemented by SRD.
