Mr Thoung Vu joined SRD in October 2007 as a Program Officer, and has since been promoted to the position of Capacity Building Coordinator. He holds a B.A. in Social Psychology from the Hanoi National University (1999) and an M.A. in Social Psychology from the Hanoi National University (2003). His areas of expertise include: participatory approaches, community communication, capacity building, risk reduction and climate change sdaptation.
Vu The Thuong had four years of experience working for the Vietnam Community Mobilization Center for HIV/AIDS control (VICOMC) as a project officer and facilitator before joining SRD. He is also a collaborator in communication and training activities for the Macfarlane Burnet Institute (MBI), Thanh Xuan Red Cross Association. Through this employment history, Thuong gained valuable experience in project management including planning, monitoring and evaluation skills; participatory facilitating skills; and communication skills. He has also attended several relevant training courses on such topics as mobilizing & developing resources, cooperation and development groups, behavior change communication, and consumer rights.
His other practical experiences include:
• Research: More than nine years experience in direct implementation and coordinating research on the technical and social aspects of various issues relating todrugs, HIV, reproductive health, agriculture livelihood, natural disasters, and climate change.
• Project/Programme management: More than nine years of experience in designing, implementing and monitoring projects relating to HIV prevention; rural livelihood; capacity building on climate change; and natural disaster prevention.
• Training: More than eight years of experience in designing and delivering trainings on various topics relating to participatory training methods, community skills, team building, participatory rural appraisals, participatory vulnerability analysis (PVA), project management, participatory project monitoring and evaluation (PM&E), community based disaster risk management (CBDRM), and climate change adaptation
• Networking: Leading and supporting the network of almost 15 trainers, supporting the network of Vietnam Non-government Organization and Climate Change.
