Mrs. Vu Thi Bich Hop, SRD’s Director, said the workshop was organized within the framework of the Vietnam Forests and Deltas project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project with a total budget of over $ 26 million has been implemented in four provinces over a period of 5 years. Its overall goal is to help accelerate Vietnam’s transition to a climate change resilient, low carbon, and sustainable society.

Nghe An is one of the five provinces that are most affected by climate change in Vietnam. Natural disasters such as floods and storms have caused severe damage to agricultural production, irrigation works including dikes, and houses, affecting the life of the locals and the socio-economic development of the province. The training, therefore, is expected to help provincial departments of Nghe An province to become proactive in developing and implementing local climate change and natural disaster response plans in accord with the the National Green Growth Strategy approved by Vietnam’s Prime Minister.
