Inception Workshop “Towards a sustainable livelihood of poor single women headed households located in Tinh Gia District, Thanh Hoa Province”

On April 22nd2015, SRD in collaboration with the People’s Commitees of Hai Ninh and Ninh Hai communes held an Inception Workshop “Towards a sustainable livelihood of poor single women headed households located in Tinh Gia District, Thanh Hoa Province”- VM052 funded by Manos Unidas (Spain) at the town hall of the People’s Committee of Hai Ninh, Tinh Gia district, Thanh Hoa province. Attendees at the workshop included the representatives of both Ninh Hai and Hai Ninh communes, other relevant governmental agencies and 15 hamlets. The workshop aims at officallly launching the project and introducing SRD, and Manos as well as project’s content and activities to local residents and other stakeholders.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Le The Ky, Vice President of People’s Committee and Head of Division for the Advancement of Women in Tinh Gia District said that he highly appreciated the support of SRD and the donor, Manos Unidas since the project is relevant to the difficult local conditions and made a commitment to facilitate the project. Mr Ky also emphasized that the main objective of the project is to support livelihood development for poor single women in the two communes through technical support and capacity bulding. Instead of giving them money, the objective is to guide them to do business. Therefore, people should  learn to make a sustainable livelihood under the  guidance of the representatives of Tinh Gia District and the Union’s women of the two districts.

Regarding SRD, Mrs Nguyen Thi Hoa, Deputy Director of SRD says that this is the first project whose beneficiaries are poor single women headed households that SRD has carried out. SRD as well as Manos Unidas hope the project will establish strong connections among poor single women headed households in communes; build capacity for beneficiaries to actively develop livelihood and affirm their role in family and community.

 The workhop closed and the project is officially launched which will create new life to poor single women headed households in the two Hai Ninh and Ninh Hai districts, contribute to reduce sustainable poverty for Tinh Gia District and bring the two Districts together to build new livelidhood apdapting  practices adapted to climate change.
