Training on “Writing case studies of Local community and Forest Governance”

Negotiations and implementation of Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) in Vietnam are forecasted to impact a range of stakeholders, including vulnerable groups such as forest-based households and communities. European Union (EU) has always devoted special attention to the role and involvement of all stakeholders, especially the local communities depending on forests and forest resources, to ensure their interests in the process of implementing VPA. This requires Vietnam forestry industry to achieve sustainable environmental and social development, respect the rights of indigenous people and workers in all production sectors from forestry plantation, exploitation, transportation, processing and export. In particular, the responsibilities of the offices and organizations related to the forestry production activities are to abide by and comply with the national regulations and VPA-FLEGT's requirements.

In the framework of the project "Promoting FLEGT in South East Asia through proactive CSOs engagement" with the financial supports from the European Union (EU) through Stichting Fern, Centre for Rural Development Sustainable (SRD) in the position of Chair of VNGO-FLEGT Network has organized the workshops on "Writing case studies of Local Community and Forest Governance". The workshop was held from 15th to 17th September, 2016 in Thai Nguyen province where is one of project locations of SRD. Participating the workshop, there were 24 selected representatives from the VNGO-FLEGT network member organization nationwide and media agencies or whom are interested in forest governance.

Training course 's objective was to equip trainees with the necessary skills including observation, interviews, documents research and information collection for articles. Approach, topic selection method, information extraction, data presentation skills, comments citation, structural cohesion and information pattern were also delivered to and discussed with learners so that they were capable of writing a complete story. Under the lecturers' guidance and support through group exercises, case studies, group discussions, presentations and personal report writing, learners could write a case study of people and forest governance to either VNGO- FLEGT network for publishing or the departments related.
