In addition, the Department highly appreciates the support of the Center for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD), the Vietnam NGO and Climate Change Network (VNGO & CC), Change Working Group (CCWG) and CARE in response to climate change. At the same time, there have also been thousands of initiatives and actions to adapt to climate change. Disaster risk reduction in many fields and many different localities in the country have also been actively supported by CSOs to create significant effects in increasing awareness and enhancing the adaptive capacity of communities and local authorities.

In the workshop, Mrs. Vu Thi Bich Hop, Chairwoman of the VNGO & CC Network, said, “Despite facing many difficulties and challenges, over the past 2 decades, CSOs have not stopped their efforts to accompany communities and the government in solving social, economic and environmental issues in general, and responding to climate change in particular. A popular approach used by I-NGOs / CSOs in Vietnam to overcome these difficulties and challenges is to actively cooperate with each other to gather and strengthen expertise and resources. `

Presenting results of the supporting activities to cope with change response, Mr. Vu The Thuong - representative of VNGO & CC networks emphasized the overall success of climate change adaptation activities, primarily to mainstream and evaluate the effectiveness of project programs in climate change and local socio-economic development programs. In addition, to also reinforce the evidence of cost-effective, resource-adaptive modeling strategies that are relevant to the local context and have the potential to replicate and provide an understanding of policies. Strengthening the capacity of local officials to participate in project management, especially in finance and communication is also important. Finally, raising the awareness of local stakeholders on climate change adaptation, focusing on climate change adaptation criteria is another important activity.

Thus, the network of social organizations on climate change (VNGO-CC and CCWG) is really an extension arm, helping state management agencies and local communities to connect more effectively, from building policy institutions to effectively implementing practical activities, making an important contribution to strengthening awareness and capacity to adapt to climate change, associating with sustainable livelihood development and contributing to the implementation of sustainable development objectives that the UN has set, and that Vietnam has committed to implementing.
