Rehabilitation training aims to build a network of on-site collaborative rehabilitation workers

On December 14-15, 2019, the Center for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) collaborated with the steering committee of the project "Empowering people with disabilities" (VM064) to organize a training course on "Rehabilitation techniques for core members”. The goal of the training was to build a network of on-site rehabilitation collaborators to support community-based rehabilitation activities in the near future. 25 members including people with disabilities, relatives and parents of children with disabilities (CWD) from 9 project communes participated in the training.
Through hands-on exercises, participants were able to learn about some common local disabilities. The training focused on practical content such as independently living for people with severe and extremely severe disabilities, exercises for motor therapy, retardation and early recovery, muscle strengthening, and spinal degeneration and disc herniation prevention. At the end of the training, 15 of the participants had pledged to become collaborators on rehabilitation and will join the experts in strengthening knowledge through quarterly field visits to the community.
Ms. L.N.T.T, the parent of a child with a disability, shared, “I found the training very relative. The exercises are easy to apply and practice at home. I have gained a lot of knowledge to support rehabilitation exercises for my children and I hope to become a collaborator to support many other people with disabilities in the commune”.
The activity was organized within the framework of the project "Empowering People with Disabilities" in the period 2019-2022, which is sponsored by Caritas Australia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
