SRD’s Executive Director and Fern’s Representatives visited project sites in Thai Nguyen Province

In the two days of 17th and 18th of May, 2016, the SRD Director – Mrs. Vu Thi Bich Hop and the donor's representatives – Mr. Konert Rudolph Walter and Mrs. Fournier Perrine – had a visit to Thai Nguyen Province, the site of the two projects of "Improving rural livelihood and sustainable forest management through PLUM and value-chain approaches" and "Rainforest recovery by local species nursery garden development" presently undertaken by SRD.
The first day of the field trip, SRD and local people who are joining SRD's projects in Dong Nghe II Village, Dong Dat Commune, Phu Luong District shared many information of project's support in local forest protection and management, sustainable livelihood model development such as raising chickens, bees, nursery garden development for local species and medicine plants, etc.

"Through the trip in Phu Luong District, Thai Nguyen Province, I can learn more about SRD's project activities that are supporting local people in forest protection and livelihood development. Talking with them, I can see how they earn money via different models. That is very interesting." Said Mrs. Fournier Perrine.

On May 18, the representatives of SRD and Fern visited some other project activities including one VSLA group's monthly meeting, local species nursery garden; models of raising red worm, chicken, pig using biological padding, etc. in the villages of Tham Trung – On Luong Commune and O – Yen Lac Commune. The local people also had a chance to share their advantages and disadvantages in implementing these works.

SRD and the donor had a visit to the model of raising red worm applied by the household of Ms. Luu Thi Ngay, the head of the VSLA group in Tham Trung Village – On Luong Commune and also an active member joining project activities. She said "Before joining the project, in our community, we didn't share any information or experience in animal husbandry, we also did not have any technical in raising chicken or goat. Since taking part in the project's activities, I have been trained knowledge and skills in developing livelihoods. My family's income increased significantly while our surrounding environment was kept clean." Talking her own changes, she shared "I used to feel bored because of just staying at home and doing housework. But, it has become more interesting when I joined project's groups such as VSLA, nursery garden where I could meet and exchange with other women, visit many livelihood models, learn more experience etc. One of my special impressions was about a training workshop on gender where I learned many new things that used to be very strange to me."
