Dialogue on PwDs responding to disasters
Mr P.V.P - Vice Director of People with Disabilities (PwDs) club in Gio Hai commune, group II: I enjoyed the event a lot, it was very exciting. This is the first time that PwDs in Gio Hai group II celebrate a day for PwDs. I have seen initial positive changes in all members after participating in the project. We hope that the project will have more activities which other members will have the opportunity to join.

I will actively participate in other activities that the project organizes to learn more about PwDs and share with people who are in a similar situation.

Ms T.T.T – A member of the PwDs club in Gio Chau commune: Even though I am busy with work and cannot participate as much as I used to, I will always try to join as many events and trainings as I can. I am very happy that every year in December 3rd, the project organizes an event for PwDs in the whole district, who often enjoy meeting and sharing experiences with each other.

On December 3rd, 2020 in Gio An commune, the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) in collaboration with Gio Linh District People's Committee and People's Committee and the PwDs club of Gio An commune organized an event to celebrate the International Day of People with Disabilities. Attending the event were Mrs Hoang Thi Lan - Deputy Head of Gio Linh Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (DoLISA) cum Deputy of the Steering Committee of the project "Empowering People with Disabilities", Mrs Hoang Thi Thuong –staff of Gio Linh DoLISA, Mr Nguyen Huu Luat - Chairman of Gio Linh Red Cross and 300 PwDs and their caregivers from 10 PwDs clubs in 10 project communes. The performances, speeches and open dialogues within the event focused mainly on the topic of PwDs responding to disasters - practical experience. The activity was expected to promote the position of PwDs in society, and the importance of disability-inclusive disaster risk reduction, while helped to remove barriers and to increase confidence for PwDs in a better life.
