A BUSY WORKING WEEK WITH CARITAS AUSTRALIA AT SRD’S HEAD OFFICE

During the period between 14 and 18 May 2018, Mr. Patrick Makenen, Viet Nam Program Coordinator from Caritas Australia worked with SRD management board and staff. His visit aimed at supporting SRD to review and improve the design of project entitled "Empowering People with Disabilities in Gio Linh District, Quang Trị Province" co-funded by Caritas Australia and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for Gio Linh District, Quang Tri Province in 2018 – 2022 period. The project supports the people with disabilities (PWD) to develop their own organization, health care, rehabilitation, community integration, and livelihood for both adults and children with disabilities. As the continuation of the project support through different stages since 2012, 5 clubs of PWDs with almost 300 members and 2 parent groups of children with disabilities (CWD) were established; more than 100 PWD and CWD were examined and provided with rehabilitation facilities; 7 village credit groups were set up and 4 livelihood cooperatives were developed to support 200 PWD's households. In his impression to what had been observed in the field, the representative from Caritas Australia shared Caritas Australia's commitment to support SRD and Gio Linh District for replication of asset-based community development approach (ABCD) to additional communes in the forthcoming time. Support by Caritas Australia is critical to help SRD and its beneficiaries to realize the ultimate target of empowerment for PWD from community integration to the improvement of their quality of life and resilience to the increasing natural disasters as four Caritas Australia's integral human development priorities (IHD).
During Mr. Patrick Makenen's time with SRD, Ms. Nguyen Kim Ngan – SRD Executive Director shared SRD's projects with child protection mainstreaming in the on-going projects while transparent and professional financial management was maintained. Mr. Patrick Makenen highly appreciated SRD's new proposal with ABCD, with IHD indicators to be realized, monitored, measured and evaluated in different stages in project life until 2022.
On behalf of SRD, Ms. Nguyen Kim Ngan extended her sincere thanks to Mr. Patrick Makenen for his enthusiastic and effective work with SRD during his time in Viet Nam as well as her respect to reliable partnership with Caritas Australia and DFAT. This is the foundation for SRD to continue its mission of supporting the disadvantaged, marginalized and vulnerable key populations in Viet Nam in the implementation of the organization's next strategic plan in 2018-2022 period.
